Chromebook QuickStart Guide

First Time Start Up

  • When first going to use your Chromebook after receiving it, please be aware it will likely need to charge after having sat in storage over the summer.
    • The status light on the side of the Chromebook should turn yellow/orange to show the Chromebook is in a charging state. (Note that to prevent overcharging, the device may stop charging when the battery is over 95%)

    • Please plug it in and allow it to charge for 15 minutes before trying to use it. Depending on the battery state, it may need to reach a certain battery percentage threshold to power on.

    • If the status light is not turning orange or if the Chromebook is not powering on even after charging overnight, please reach out via the methods in the Support section below.
  • The first time anyone logs into a Chromebook off-campus, i.e. home network, please allow all applications and security updates to occur. This could take up to 10 minutes before the Chromebook is ready for use.

Logging In

  • The login username and password for student's Chromebook is accessible to view through Skyward.
    • To find this on the Skyward mobile app: Select the menu icon (displayed as =), then 'Student Info' from the expanded option. On the 'Student Info' page, the username and password should be listed in the section directly below the student profile picture.

    • To find this on a computer, go through the Skyward website and click on the plus sign icon near the top left of the page and select 'Student Info' from the populated menu. From the 'Student Info' page, the username and password should be in the section directly to the left of the student profile picture.

    • Please note that the password for logging in is case sensitive.

Charging Your Chromebook

  • It is the expectation of the school that your student's Chromebook must be fully charged and ready for use at the start of each school day.
  • Only use the designated proprietary Dell charger issued with the Chromebook to charge your device.
    • Use of other chargers, even though they may look similar or work, may cause damage to the battery and can result in the associated fines as outlined below. Please review the notes below regarding these costs.

    • Should you misplace or damage the original charger, please reach out to the library.

    • The correct charger is a rounded rectangular shape with the Dell logo imprinted on the plastic casing on one side.
On the other side, there is a Dell product sticker, classifying it as being 65w.

Support

  •  If there is an issue with the Chromebook or a particular ClassLink application, please submit a work order from the student's ClassLink dashboard via the HelpDesk icon. In the event that the device is not working, or the student is unable to access HelpDesk for any reason, please take the device to the Library and consult with the faculty there on the issue.

  • Should you need to replace or repair any of the aforementioned parts/components, please place a HelpDesk ticket. Should you be unable to do so, please reach out to the school Library.
